The role

Intersciencefire is looking for a practical and methodical Test Engineer to carry out reaction-to-fire testing at our Crawley laboratory.

You will prepare specimens, operate specialist testing equipment, record and review results and support the production of accurate technical reports. The role would suit someone with an engineering, scientific or materials-testing background who enjoys hands-on laboratory work.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct fire tests in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
  • Prepare, identify, condition and mount test specimens.
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment and data-acquisition systems.
  • Record test conditions, observations and results accurately.
  • Review data and identify unusual results or equipment issues.
  • Assist with technical reports and maintain complete test records.
  • Carry out routine equipment checks, cleaning and basic maintenance.
  • Follow laboratory quality and health and safety procedures.
  • Support customer visits and witnessed testing where required.

About you

You will ideally have:

  • A qualification or practical experience in engineering, science or materials testing.
  • Experience within a laboratory, testing or technical environment.
  • The ability to understand technical standards and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and good numerical skills.
  • Confidence using spreadsheets and technical software.
  • A methodical, safety-conscious and reliable approach.

Experience of fire testing, cable testing, calorimetry, smoke analysis or an accredited laboratory would be beneficial, but training can be provided.
